Donna's Apple Pie
As with all “old family recipes” the measurements are best guess estimates – use your taste and judgment to determine what quantities of butter, sugar, flour, and cinnamon work for your family. The recommended ones in this recipe work for Donna’s family.
Ingredients
Directions
1. Lay crust into bottom of pie pan
2. Distribute 1 pat of butter cut into fourths on top of crust
3. Sprinkle 2 tsp of flour evenly over crust
4. Place one layer of apples over flour, butter, and crust
5. Sprinkle 1 tsp of sugar and 1 tsp of cinnamon on top of apples
6. Repeat steps 2-5 until pie pan is filled (approximately 3-4 layers)
7. Place top crust over mixture, pinching the crusts together
8. Poke holes into top of crust to release steam
9. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes, then an additional 45 minutes at 375
Option: Use a pie shield from strips of Aluminum foil or a commercial pie shield so that crust edge doesn’t burn
- 2 nine-inch pie crusts
- 8-10 medium Mackintosh apples – peeled, cored, and sliced
- 2-3 Tbl butter – cut into pats of butter
- 2 Tbl flour
- 2-3 Tbl sugar
- 1-2 Tbl cinnamon – to taste
