50th Anniversary Celebration News Release
For Immediate Release
TRINITY-ST JOHN LUTHERAN SCHOOL, NASHVILLE, CELEBRATES 50 YEARS
Under the theme, “Jesus Teaches Here,” Trinity-St. John Lutheran School, Nashville, is inviting former teachers, alumni, and the whole TSJ school family to come together in thanksgiving to God on Sunday, September 8, 2024, for the 9:30 a.m. joint worship service at Trinity, Nashville. The occasion is the 50-year anniversary of what is now known as Trinity-St. John Lutheran School. The Rev. Dr. Jeffery T. Schrank will serve as guest speaker. Pastor David Benning of Trinity will serve as liturgist. A free meal will follow in the TSJ gymnasium, with bounce houses and other activities for the children. There is no program planned at the meal, just plenty of informal time for guests to visit with each other, tour the school, and view the displays.
Dr. Shrank was pastor at Trinity Lutheran Church, Nashville, from 1995-2000, and a vigorous champion of the School. Since leaving Nashville he has served as Executive Pastor of Christ Church Lutheran, Phoenix, AZ; Christ Lutheran School there currently numbers more than 625 students, from three-year-olds to 8th graders.
August 23, 1974, was the first day of School for what was unofficially called “Washington County Lutheran School,” a consolidated school formed by Trinity Lutheran Church, Nashville, and St. John’s Lutheran Church, New Minden. Mr. Richard Cohrs was the first principal. The name was chosen in order that other Lutheran congregations from the County might feel free to join in the Association. Two years later, a Solemn Agreement between the two congregations was adopted and the name Trinity-St. John Lutheran School officially adopted. The two congregations each operated their own Lutheran school from the year they were founded (St. John’s in 1846 and Trinity in 1886).
The theme “Jesus Teaches Here” is based on Isaiah 54:13, where God promises: “All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children.” Jesus made reference to the verse in John 6:45 and following, where He says, “It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me—not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life. Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died. This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die” (John 6:45-50).
Trinity-St. John Lutheran School’s projected enrollment for the 2024-2025 School Year is about 94 (K-8) with 28 in the Pre-K program. Mrs. Melanie Cooper began serving as principal July 1, 2024.
