Haitian Tin Art Cross
Rich and Carol travelled to Saint Augustine, Florida, to represent the Lutheran Center for Religious Liberty at the Florida/Georgia – LCMS District Convention.
They manned a display table for the LCRL.
Next to them was a display table representing the Trinity Hope Haitian Feeding Program. This ministry provides nutritious meals to the school children of Haiti who live in poverty.
As part of their display, they offered handmade Haitian Tin Art crosses for sale.
The metal crosses are made by local Haitian craftsmen out of recycled oil drums. The craftsmen begin with 55-gallon metal oil drums that are cleaned, split open and flattened to form a surface on which to draw the detailed designs. With a common hammer, chisel and a nail, these amazing pieces of Haitian metal art are created. These beautiful pieces are the results of the work and the talent of the steel drum artist, who often works bare foot and holds the metal with his feet.
We purchased this cross and gave a donation that together will provide 80 meals.
