Our House
In my Father’s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. – John 14:2
Last week Carol and I became the owners of our first house together. Our marriage brought us together as man and wife – a new family in the Lord. Each of us brought our children, our grandchildren, our houses, and our possessions into the formation of this new family. Our children, our grandchildren and our possessions were blended into this new family. However, we can not blend our houses – we needed to find one that was just ours – a place we could build our lives from, make memories from, as well as define and refine our identity as the Cohrs family.
After searching, praying, searching some more, praying some more, we found our house. We both liked it – we both wanted it – we both see the possibilities to make it uniquely ours. God provided the resources to allow us to purchase it – with lots of help from the bank.
Now the fun begins. We will fill the house with furniture, decorations, window treatments, plants and pictures. We will discuss what goes where – the lady usually wins these battles – and what we will buy or make that will define us. Visitors to our house will see what is important to us when they visit. They will see my Coca-Cola collection, the pictures of our grandchildren, and all of the books that mean so much to us. They will also see our Bibles, devotional books, and crosses that we use to build one another up and proclaim us as children of the Heavenly Father.
Our house is a very, very fine house. We have two better houses. One we visit each weekend to get fed and meet the rest of our family. For this house is Our Father’s house – we call it the church. This house is an awesome house! We get fed on His Divine Word – His holy sacrament of Communion – the prayers and the praise. We meet our brothers and sisters of faith and get encouraged and loved.
Our second house is our heavenly mansion! Christ has prepared for us an eternal home that is beyond earthly description. We look forward to the time when we can walk the halls of our heavenly home and see the family gathered there. What joy that will be!
I invite you to visit my houses – especially the weekend one at Our Savior. I encourage you to invite others to the family reunion this Sunday. I also encourage you to invite others to your heavenly home. Share the saving news that Jesus has prepared a home for you – and for all! Your invitation may be the one that is accepted and another soul is in heaven – with your help.
Prayer – Thank you Jesus for our houses – help me share the Good News. Amen.
