The Rainbow
The sky turned dark as the rain clouds gathered on the horizon. The bending branches indicated that the wind was growing stronger. The car swayed as the gusts pushed against it. Soon sunglasses were removed as the first drops of rain hit the windshield.
The wipers started their gentle swoosh – chasing raindrops to the side. Soon the sky darkened, the wind blew stronger and the hissing of the passing car tires added to the load the wipers had to remove. As the lightning flashed the wipers could no longer keep pace – visibility dropped, speed dropped, and the red glow from the tail lights ahead was the only indication of where the traffic lane was located.
Suddenly the car in front of us swerved to the left – hitting a traffic barrel – and then the edge of the concrete barrier. The car backed away – making an arc through 180 degrees and coming to rest in front of us. The crumpled front end indicated the exact point of contact. People appeared and helped – the driver exiting and walking – thankfully no apparent injuries. The 911 call summoned police and rescue teams to assist.
The rain grew stronger as we continued down the highway – soon to stop and rest.
We entered the restaurant in a driving rain storm. We exited the restaurant to a calm, sunny evening.
The rainbow was brilliant – shining brightly against the dark clouds. The rainbow grew in intensity – then doubled itself. A double rainbow – the outer a mirror reflection of the inner
The sunset belied the terror and force of the storm. Soon thoughts went back to remembering another time of storms, destruction and rainbows.
God told Noah that He would destroy the earth. The entire earth had turned from Him – all except Noah and his family. God commanded – Noah obeyed and an ark was built – an ark that rode out the storm – an ark that surrounded Noah and his family with peace and safety. God set His rainbow in the sky to remind us that He is always with us. No longer will He destroy the earth with flood. He gave us His divine intervention – Jesus as Savior from sin, death and Satan.
As the school breaks for Summer vacation – I pray that we all remember the message of the rainbow. God loves us – no matter what – God is there. We may suffer storms of doubt – accidents of an earthly nature – experience the thunder of sin – yet God gives us the peace of His Son.
I pray that you remain close to God – now and always.
