My People
“So you will be my people and I will be your God” – Jeremiah 30:22
This verse from Jeremiah is the theme verse for Our Savior Lutheran School for the 2006-2007 school year. We have it posted in the classrooms, the halls and the offices. The children will be hearing and reading this verse all school year. It will be a source of inspiration for the faculty, staff and students for not just this year, but for many years to come.
For what greater inspiration is there than to realize that we belong to God? He is our God and we are His people. That is an awesome thing. We are His people! God protects us, provides for us and gives us wonderful gifts!
He protects us from sin, death and the power of Satan. Jesus paid the price for our sin. Jesus gives us eternal life with our Father in heaven, The Holy Spirit gives us the faith and the power to overcome any temptation that Satan can throw at us.
God provides for us – daily! He gives us food and clothing, more than we need each day. He gives us a house and bed, more than we need each day. He surrounds us with that which is needed for life – water, air, sunshine and people who love us, more than we need each day.
God gives us wonderful gifts – daily! He gives us our abilities, our talents, that which makes us unique. He gives us the surprise of a sunset, the promise of a rainbow and the quiet of a starry night. He gives us work and health and money – more than we need each day. He gives us every good and perfect gift.
He is our God, and we are His people. As His people it our task, our joy, to praise Him, worship Him and use that which He gives to us. We praise Him with our life – as we live a life of service – sharing His Gospel to all we see. We worship Him with our presence at church – at Sunday school – at Bible Class. We use that which He gives us – always putting Him first. We give Him our offerings of not just money, but also time and service.
We are His people – He is our God – Amen!
Prayer: Lord, help us to be your people.
