Texas Sheet Cake (Carol's Aunt Eileen)
Ingredients for Cake:
2 sticks butter
1 cup water
4 tablespoons cocoa
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon baking soda
Procedure for cake:
Ingredients for Frosting:
1 stick butter
4 tablespoons cocoa
6 Tablespoons milk
1 pound Powered Sugar
1 Teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts - if desired
Procedure for Frosting:
NOTE: Frosting may run over
2 sticks butter
1 cup water
4 tablespoons cocoa
2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 eggs
1/2 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon baking soda
Procedure for cake:
- use cookie sheet with sides - grease (optional: line with oarchment paper)
- in a sausepan, bring to boil butter, water and cocoa
- pour mixture into a large bowl
- in small bowl mix sugar, flour and salt
- gradually add to liquid in large bowl - mix well
- blend in eggs (one at a time)
- blend in sour cream
- blend in baking soda
- pour into greased baking sheet
- bake 20 minutes at 400 degrees
Ingredients for Frosting:
1 stick butter
4 tablespoons cocoa
6 Tablespoons milk
1 pound Powered Sugar
1 Teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts - if desired
Procedure for Frosting:
- Melt butter in a saucepan
- Add cocoa and milk - bring to a boil
- remove from heat and gradually beat in powered sugar and vanilla
- pour over cake as soon as it is removed from the oven
